Because of recent funding cuts in the early childhood sector Family Day Care is often the ‘poor cousin’ of centre based Early Years Education and Care services. While the Government may be doing little to address this financial funding discrepancy, Backyard in a Box is working hard to find solutions to close this gap.
The Backyard in a Box initiative is twofold. Firstly, 7 themed Resource Kits are reduced from $395 down to $255 for FDC Educators. Secondly, due to its innovative approach to Education for Sustainability, each of the Resource Kits enable Family Day Carers to establish and successfully operate ongoing sustainable environmental systems in their homes which their own families benefit from. The Resources are dual use. With 7 themes to choose from Family Day Care educators can keep chooks, guinea pigs, worms, compost and grow organic vegetables.
