Many of us buy products made with recycled materials with the belief we are doing the right thing. We also feel good about ourselves when we sort items and place them in the correct recycling bins, and it is completely understandable too. We are going to that extra bit of effort – despite our busy lives to do the right thing, so we should feel good. But is there a way for us to do even better?
Yes there is! In some ways, recycling enables us to feel OK about continuing to buy sh&t. The truth is its better to not have to recycle at all. We have been educated for over two generations by one agency or another to buy sh&t and then recycle it, but the recycling dialogue really needs an urgent review. It needs to shift from ‘recycling is good’ towards ‘stop buying sh&t’, reducing the necessity for recycling.
How is this possible? Well you have to stop buying sh&t, and stop buying shit wrapped in plastic. Speak with your money and purchase with intent.
